Amidst this world of snow and ice, his pure white garments appeared even more frosty, as if he had come from this snow and ice, like a snow deity that was above worldly attractions. Of course, all that was except for that warm smile on his face.
When he smiled, he definitely looked like a good person, even more so than the gongzi.
Lei Lei was immediately filled with hope: “Ge, she’s been poisoned, what do we do?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue said gracefully: “What are you afraid of? You’re not the one who’s poisoned.”
Besides his sister, he didn’t care about others’ life or death. Lei Lei held onto him as she pleaded anxiously: “Can you save her?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue frowned: “Why would I save her?”
Lei Lei said: “She’s been poisoned, she’ll die!”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue had a slight smile on his face as he held up her hand: “If she dies, she dies. Let’s go, I’ll send you to Bi Shui City.”
You can be heartless but I can’t, I’m also a Mary Sue! Lei Lei was disappointed that they couldn’t come to an agreement: “Forget about it, send us back to Chuan Qi Valley.”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue was confused: “Didn’t you want to come out? Why do you want to go back now?”
Lei Lei gave him a terse reply: “Save her.”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue raised an eyebrow: “You’ve already angered Fu Lou. If you return now, it won’t be just a broken hand……”
Lei Lei trembled: “But the antidote……”
“If you’re afraid, then that’s even more reason for you not to return.” Shang Guan Qiu Yue had a perfect smile on his face as he led her away enticingly, “This girl doesn’t even have anything to do with you, why do you care about her? If you don’t leave now, you’ll freeze to death. Why don’t you leave with gege?”
Lei Lei pulled away her hand: “I want to return to Chuan Qi Valley.”
Saying this, she turned around to help Feng Cai Cai up from the ground. Unfortunately, this body couldn’t be compared to her own and because she’d already been running in the snow for a long time, she soon became exhausted and the two ended up back on the snow.
She had no choice but to seek his help: “Ge, it’s fine if you don’t want to save her but can you help me?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue looked at her: “Last night, this girl had already awoken but she tried to listen in on our talk. She has seen me, so letting her live will create trouble for us in the future. If Xiao Bai and the rest were to find out, our plans will fall through.”
Lei Lei quickly replied: “It won’t, she doesn’t know your identity.”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue didn’t reply.
Lei Lei came to a sudden realisation: “You’re the one that poisoned her, and you did it last night?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue sighed and tried to coax her: “You cannot be soft-hearted when dealing with these people. Listen to me, if Xiao Bai knows that you’re related to me, he’ll definitely have his guard up against you. By then, it’ll be even more difficult for you to obtain the xinfa. Do you want to let Xiao Bai know of your identity?”
Of course not, Lei Lei shook her head: “But she’s innocent.”
“It’s just the death of one girl, could she be even more important than gege’s matters?” Shang Guan Qiu Yue was displeased, “Xiao Bai has killed many of us, including some that haven’t done anything. Aren’t they innocent too?”
Lei Lei froze for a moment, then she insisted: “I don’t care, give me the antidote!”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue turned away: “No.”
Lei Lei was angry: “Ge!”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue ignored her, then as if he was feeling wronged, he huffily made a move to leave as he said indifferently: “If you want to help them, then don’t acknowledge me as your brother.”
Lei Lei panicked and simply lay down on the snow: “If you don’t give me the antidote, I won’t get up. Just let your sister freeze to death!”
Sure enough, Shang Guan Qiu Yue halted in his steps and looked down at her with a straight face and haughty attitude. He’d probably never seen someone act this shamelessly. Surprise emerged in his eyes, then his gaze became incomparably fierce, but when she looked at him carefully, it became a smiling expression.
She had placed the correct bet. Qiu Yue and Chun Hua were that ambiguous, laoniang doesn’t believe that you have the heart to leave. Lei Lei knew that she couldn’t overdo things in front of him so she used a gentler tone: “Ge, she doesn’t know your identity, Xiao Bai won’t find out either.”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue didn’t reply.
Lei Lei tugged on the bottom of his robes as she said fawningly: “Save her first, I’ll steal the xinfa as quickly as possible, alright?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue looked at her for a while before finally nodding his head: “Get up.”
Lei Lei was overjoyed and immediately got up: “You’ve agreed?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue brushed off the snow on her body: “Is it nice to play these tricks and threaten gege?”
Lei Lei snuggled up to him: “You’re such a handsome and amazing gege who might soon unify Xing Yue Sect forever. I look up to you so much, how could I dare to threaten you?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue listened to her with a smile, then he said: “You look up to me?”
Lei Lei replied: “Of course.”
“Then bring me the xinfa or Xuan Bing Stone as quickly as possible, then you can come back and be with gege.” Shang Guan Qiu Yue stroked her head as he said dotingly, “You’re not to do this again, what if you become ill.”
This devil also had someone who he cared about, just like Fu Lou towards You Si……Lei Lei’s face was burning and alarm bells rang in her mind. Little Qiu Yue has incestual tendencies, Little Chun Hua, you have to hang in there!
“The antidote?” She urged.
All of Shang Guan Qiu Yue’s attention was on her: “You’re shivering?”
Lei Lei shivered: “It’s cold……” The snowstorm was huge and she hadn’t felt it previously because they had been hurrying along on their journey, but after stopping here for such a long time, she realised that her hands and feet were frozen numb.
Shang Guan Qiu Yue hugged her: “You’ll feel better like this.”
Lei Lei started shivering even more: “You’re even colder.”
She’d only just said this when she realised that this hug was different from usual. There was still the fragrance of incense but it was no longer ice-cold. It was warm and cosy, as if she were hugging a small stove and she could vaguely feel a current of warmth enter her body.
“Are you still cold?” he patted her back.
Lei Lei had a faint suspicion that this gege was taking this opportunity to take advantage of her: “Since you can use your kungfu to warm yourself, why is your body always so cold?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue gave it some thought: “I like the cold, I grew up in the ice.”
Lei Lei wasn’t the slightest bit surprised to hear that he had grown up in the snow and ice. In fact, that inherently icy disposition of his was too beautiful and unfeeling that it didn’t seem like it was something that existed in the human world. Just like the icy moon at Qian Yue Cave’s ice valley, he should be looking down on all living creatures with aloofness and indifference, but unfortunately, he had fallen down to the mortal world and joined the human’s games and gotten tainted with too much blood.
Xiao Bai was the moon among men and he was the man among moons. Xiao Bai appeared unfeeling but the things he did were filled with emotions; while he appeared full of emotions but was actually heartless. He was born with that kind of “it’s lonely at the top” loneliness.
It’s just that, how could someone live in the snow and ice?
Lei Lei looked at him dazedly as she mumbled: “We were born from the same mother?”
Shang Guan Qiu Yue smiled: “What else?”
Lei Lei didn’t reply. D*mn it, what genetics are these. If laoniang had also been born with such peerless elegance, “Xiao Bai” would already be in her grasp now!
“You’re not allowed to qingbo others.” he said in a low and gentle voice, but it was an order that couldn’t be defied. As if he knew what she was thinking, Shang Guan Qiu Yue’s gaze was soul-piercing, “You’re not allowed to qingbo Xiao Bai, understood?”
But “Xiao Bai” makes it difficult for people to refrain from wanting to qingbo him. Lei Lei nodded with an odd expression on her face, feeling a mix of emotions. Chun Hua and Qiu Yue’s relationship was becoming increasingly ridiculous. Beauty gege was even getting jealous!
The corners of his lips were slightly raised as he fiddled with the hair on her forehead, “Good. When will the spring flowers and autumn moon end, gege still remembers it.”
Why don’t you be a good brother instead of seducing your sister all the time! Lei Lei’s scalp tingled and she jumped out of his embrace: “Save her first.”
“Feed her the antidote.” Shang Guan Qiu Yue turned to leave.
“Where’s the antidote?” After asking this, Lei Lei realised that there was something in her hand. It was a black pill and when its fragrance assailed her nostrils, she realised that it smelled like him.
She looked up, only to see an expanse of snow. He was nowhere to be seen.
Twenty Li outside Ye Tan City, a horse carriage was travelling at very high speeds along the main road. Travelling together with it were more than twenty people riding on fine horses. The person in the lead had a black cloak draped around his shoulders and a long sword at his waist, it was Nan Hai faction’s leader, Leng Sheng Yin.
The snow had only fallen for three or four days and the air was especially fresh after the weather cleared up. There was a thick feeling of the new year in the air and the breeze brought a chill with it. On the roadside was snow that had yet to fully thaw. The dark coloured mud and the white snow, together with the bare old trees and various coloured wild grass looked very bizarre and funny. One was almost unable to believe that this was that clean and flawless world from before. It was no longer beautiful, but it was very authentic.
Lei Lei didn’t want to feel too disappointed so she looked away.
That day, when they returned to Bi Shui City, Leng Sheng Yin and Wen Xiang had been panicking over their disappearance and had sent men to ask around. When they found out that Chuan Qi Valley had a hand in it, they were about to send a messenger pigeon to inform He Tai Ping and the rest when the two unexpectedly returned on their own. They had been missing for about two days, and although they were pleasantly surprised, it was inevitable that they’d be doubtful. When Lei Lei told them about You Si, they were even more surprised, and because Feng Cai Cai didn’t know that it was Shang Guan Qiu Yue who had poisoned her, she really thought that Lei Lei had gone back to beg You Si for the antidote. She was very grateful and kept her promise not to mention Lei Lei’s “expert big brother”. After learning about what had happened, and seeing that the two were alright, Leng Sheng Yin was also relieved. After it stopped snowing, they promptly set out for Ye Tan City as originally planned, to meet up with He Tai Ping and the rest.
Although she’d suffered a bit this time, she had finally gotten a clear idea of two things.
The first, was that the Longevity Fruit auction had been Mr Shi’s scheme but Shang Guan Qiu Yue was the actual person behind the Ye Tan City massacre. Mr Shi only wanted to earn money and on the surface, Shang Guan Qiu Yue appeared to be helping him but he was actually making use of the Longevity Fruit to lure the experts in Jianghu into killing each other. Now that so many have died, there’d be grudges and there wasn’t any way that their family and friends would leave things at that. He wanted to make use of this to stir up chaos in Jianghu.
The second, was that Wen Ting really was the one who had killed Leng Ying. Shang Guan Qiu Yue had seen it with his own eyes.
Lei Lei looked at Wen Xiang and hesitated.
Wen Xiang was confused: “What’s wrong?”
Lei Lei shook her head and looked away: “It’s nothing, I just recalled something.”
Wen Xiang asked: “What did you recall?”
Lei Lei said calmly: “On a clean piece of land lived a herd of seals, then a group of people came and killed them.”
Wen Xiang didn’t speak.
Feng Cai Cai found this interesting: “What’s a seal?”
Lei Lei replied: “It’s a cute animal that lives in the sea and on ice.”
Feng Cai Cai asked: “What do they eat?”
Lei Lei replied: “Fish.”
Feng Cai Cai laughed: “Then according to you, the fishes are also pitiful.”
Lei Lei mumbled: “It’s not the same, they hunt to fill their stomachs but humans do it out of greed. The difference is that animals are simpler than humans, and more easily satisfied than humans, but human greed is endless. Any place that has humans can never be clean. The world has too many things that can cause people to become greedy, such as……the Longevity Fruit.” Jianghu had been peaceful without the Longevity Fruit, but with its existence came Old Sir Bu’s murder, then Wen Ting had personally killed his friend of many years. Now, it had even lured many heroes of the martial arts circle into killing one another, causing more than a hundred of them to lose their lives. The fault lay not in the Longevity Fruit but in human selfishness and greed. In real life, even brothers can fall out over small gains, so items that are even more valuable can arouse people’s greed even more, making them show their ugliest side.
Probably affected by her mood, the entire carriage fell silent.
Lei Lei abruptly said with a smile: “Fortunately, not everyone is like that. With the existence of people, there are many stories in the world and our lives become more interesting.” Human’s lives are more exciting than animal’s.
Wen Xiang and Feng Cai Cai laughed.
In this world, no secret could be kept forever, but Lei Lei didn’t want to be the one to reveal it. Besides, although Wen Ting had done something wrong in a moment of foolishness, he had arrived in time to stop the unrest at Ye Tan City and prevented even bigger losses. This could be considered a great merit and showed that it wasn’t too late for him yet because this at least showed that he knew to repent, although this did have something to do with He Tai Ping pressuring him in the letter.
They had been hurrying along on their journey for the past few days. Leng Sheng Yin was anxious to find out who his father’s murderer was. He also hoped that it wasn’t Wen Ting, but the truth would only bring suffering to both lovers.
Lei Lei comforted herself: It wasn’t right to cover things up but this wasn’t a society that was governed by law and as an outsider, she wasn’t obligated to expose the truth. If worst comes to worst, she’ll be a Mary Sue just this once, but even if she wants to expose the murderer, she didn’t have any proof. She couldn’t possibly say that Shang Guan Qiu Yue had seen it with his own eyes, right? Who in Jianghu would believe that? They might even regard her as a spy of the evil faction and kill her to set an example.
Beauty gege was even “Xiao Bai’s” personal enemy who had killed his father. Didn’t this mean that she also had enmity with “Xiao Bai”?
This was also very melodramatic!
What nonsense was this! Lei Lei shook off these troubling thoughts, then she suddenly realised that their horse carriage wasn’t jolting around as much anymore. The road seemed to have smoothed out a lot and she gradually started to hear the sounds of people talking.
Ye Tan City was an ancient city that had an ancient legend. It was originally a very important battlefront and according to legends, a thousand and eight hundred years ago, the martial arts circle’s righteous people and the evil sect had formed an alliance to go on a large-scale expedition. Back then, the people had no means of livelihood. One day, Chief Zhen and Leader Ximen ran into each other at this place. Just as they were about to start fighting, thousands upon thousands of people suddenly appeared around them, men and women, old and young. All of them were missing various parts of their bodies and were lying on the ground covered in blood as they groaned in pain.
The river flowed endlessly and the seasons changed. Xing Yue Sect, a branch of the evil sect grew stronger until it was unified, then good and evil had another intense face off. The notion that “good will destroy evil” quickly spread around Jianghu and “Ye Tan City (夜谈城)” unwittingly became “Ye Tan City (夜谭城)”[1]. However, everyone seemed to have forgotten this ancient tale.
What had been impressed more deeply in people’s minds was the battle that wiped out Xing Yue Sect a hundred years ago. The chief had gathered experts from dozens of factions to plan an ambush. Although Nan Xinghe, the big devil who had been running wild in the world was finally eradicated, dying under Xiao Min’s Feng Ming Sword, it was said that rivers of blood had flowed in the city and dead bodies piled up as high as hills. Countless evil sect members had died, and this was also the battle that the righteous sect was the proudest of, that people still discussed enthusiastically to this day.
As Wen Xiang started to tell them about these stories, Lei Lei remained silent all throughout it.
A chaotic burst of horse hoofs sounded from afar and sped past them, then came a burst of shouts. It was clear that that group of people had stopped in front of them.
Their horse carriage also stopped right after. Things seemed to be very lively outside and the three girls were feeling very puzzled. Wen Xiang peered out the window and a happy expression immediately appeared on her face and she got Lei Lei and Feng Cai Cai to get off the carriage.
It turns out that He Tai Ping and the rest were returning from handling matters and had happened to meet them outside the city gates.
Lei Lei lifted the carriage’s hanging screen and saw the gongzi.
His wide sleeves had unfurled in the wind and in his left hand was the Feng Ming Sword while his right hand was slightly hidden from view. Standing as tall and straight as before, he was exuding an air of righteousness. Probably because he’d been busy dealing with work for the past few days, his handsome face looked a little more thin and pallid.
She had missed the feeling of “Xiao Bai” a lot. Although beauty gege was very all-powerful, possessing both beauty and intelligence, it was an absolute no no to act ambiguously with her brother. It’s better that she continued to hang out with “Xiao Bai”.
Lei Lei jumped off the carriage and was just about to throw herself at him with outstretched arms.
“Xiao Gongzi!” someone had moved even quicker than her and became the first to stand in front of the gongzi, blocking her one and only route.
Seeing that Feng Cai Cai had taken the initiative to greet him, the gongzi nodded his head in return.
What’s the meaning of this! Lei Lei’s expression turned dark.
The gongzi glanced at her with a look of slight concern, but he couldn’t just leave Feng Cai Cai alone to go over to her.
Just like an angry old hen, Lei Lei let out a ‘hmph’ and turned her face away. Unable to retract her outstretched arms just like that, she scanned her surroundings to look for someone else to throw herself at.
In view of her principle of “only throwing herself at handsome guys”, Steward Zhao and the rest could be overlooked and Leng Sheng Yin was excluded because he had been travelling with them. That left her with three handsome guys who were present.
She couldn’t throw herself at the gongzi and she didn’t dare to throw herself at He Tai Ping, so Lei Lei had no choice but to throw herself at the last person with a smile on her face: “Hey, the one with the family name of Qin, I haven’t seen you in a long time, you’ve become even more handsome!”
