(Please read the whole thing)
I feel happy & honoured (& everything in between) that you like my translations enough to want to use it.
So, to answer the question, you can.
But please credit, with a link where possible.
It is basic courtesy to say a word of thanks when you take something from someone but thanks isn’t quite right in this case so credit would suffice.
I’m saying this because I’ve found my translations on a youtube lyric video.
I’m sure there’s more, but I don’t want to waste time over something like that. It’s not like I can do anything anyways. If they were going to credit, they would have already done so. Idk about ya’ll, but to me, it’s common sense to credit. But just in case it’s not, this post is a reminder to PLEASE credit.
Now, how can I be so sure that the translation is mine?
It’s the same song after all, it’s possible for the translations to be the same ~
Right?
Not always. Especially with the parts that are longer / more complicated, there will be slight differences in the phrasing, between different translators.
My lyric translations are done with a mixture of literal and figurative meanings, whichever I think fits better.
So, especially when it’s a figurative translation, I WILL know when the phrasing is something that I wrote.
Also, every song I translate, I love.
(Recently, I’m running out of songs to translate so I’ve lowered the ‘bar’ to even liking a certain part of the song but- )
And I can end up spending a month, or sometimes even three or four months on a single song because there’s always parts in the song that I get stuck at. (I don’t spend the whole month on the song, I get stuck and just take some time away from it before coming back in hopes that my brain will have figured it out by then)
So…
You think I wouldn’t recognise a translation that I spent so much time on?
Please credit.
Thank You
Dear Sugakookie, I like to read your creation but I never put on your translate on my social media, I’m sorry if you mistaken me to do that. Warm regards, Dewi
