CHQY Chapter 16: Good Gege Bad Gege

At a cliff not far from the manor was a small pavilion that could accommodate about ten people at most. An old pine tree of over ten metres grew beside the pavilion. It had twisted roots, gnarled branches and coiled twigs that grew wildly. It was a place where high officials gathered, hence it got it’s name “Ancient Pine Pavilion”.

When Lei Lei hurried over, Shang Guan Qiu Yue was sitting sideways on a high branch, swaying up and down with the mountain breeze. A section of snow white set against the pine’s dark green colour, as if a layer of snow had yet to melt away, or like a bright moon that had been hung on the tip of a branch.

Shang Guan Qiu Yue waved to her with a smile when he saw her: “Come up.”

If not for digging out people’s eyeballs for fun when he has nothing to do, beauty gege was actually very charming! Lei Lei was staring at him in a daze when a ray of light suddenly flashed in front of her, followed by a grip around her waist, then she was lifted off the ground.

“Isn’t it nice here?” A beautiful hand waved in front of her.

When the wind blew past her and the branch beneath her undulated, Lei Lei finally reacted, realising that beneath her was a deep precipice. She became deathly pale from fright, her eyes tightly shut as she clutched the tree trunk with both hands: “I’m falling! I’m going to fall! Help! Save me!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue looked at her with deep interest.

Not sensing any movement, Lei Lei was panic-stricken and fixed her gaze on him: “Ge! What are you doing!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue reached out and pulled her into his embrace, sighing: “What are you afraid of, gege is here.”

It was only now that Lei Lei calmed down, she seethed: “Why did you scare me!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue said with a smile: “I didn’t scare you, it’s you who didn’t trust me.”

Lei Lei was stunned to have had her worries laid bare and she slowly shifted her gaze from his face, muttering: “I don’t remember anything, so……”

“So you’re worried that gege is deceiving you,” Shang Guan Qiu Yue lowered his head, his breath splaying on her neck: “you’re my meimei, how can I harm you?” His right hand moved to her chest area: “Besides me, who else would know about this birthmark of yours?”

Realising that something was wrong, Lei Lei almost jumped up as she quickly pushed away that hand: “You, you……”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue was surprised: “Why?”

His handsome face looked extremely elegant and refined, void of the slightest bit of salaciousness. Lei Lei felt that she had overreacted and blushed as she gave a hollow laugh: “It’s nothing, just that……I’m not used to someone randomly touching.”

“I’m your brother, what’s there to be afraid of,” Shang Guan Qiu Yue paid no mind to it, “you like to qingbo gege but gege can’t qingbo you?”

Having moved a stone only to smash her own feet, Lei Lei couldn’t say anything. Although it wasn’t hateful to have been qingo-ed by a handsome man, this person was her blood related brother! Besides, this beauty gege was full of personality, had no regard for worldly views and did whatever he wanted. If these siblings qingbo-ed each other back and forth, wouldn’t it develop to that kind of relationship in the future?!

Shang Guan Qiu Yue looked at her for a while before suddenly saying: “Fine, it doesn’t matter whether you believe me, you only have to remember that gege treats you well, that’s all.”

Lei Lei wiped her forehead: “Remember, I’ll remember that.”

The wintry wind chilled one to the bones but his fragrant embrace was especially cosy. Her feet hung in the air and swayed as if she were in the clouds.

Lei Lei didn’t dare to harbour any lustful intent, only asking after him in a conventional manner: “Have you been well these past two months?”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue gave her a small smile: “You’re worried about me?”

Lei Lei said fawningly: “Of course.”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue pinched her nose and said dotingly: “Good meimei.”

Realising the ambiguity, Lei Lei had an oh no! moment and quickly changed the topic: “I’ve gone into that study room.”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue didn’t reply.

Lei Lei weighed things mentally. That room was actually used for superstitious activities and there wasn’t any other huge secret behind it so she gave him a detailed account of everything she had seen without hiding anything from him.

Shang Guan Qiu Yue listened quietly, his gaze fixed on her face.

At the end, Lei Lei showed a disappointed expression, saying: “I don’t think that the xinfa is there.”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue suddenly shook his head: “It doesn’t matter whether it’s there.” He paused before laughing softly: “It seems like Xiao Bai treats you pretty well, we have time on our side.”

“Yeah,” Lei Lei gave a cautious laugh, thinking aloud: “The few lines that Xiao Min wrote back then, what do they mean? Did he let someone down?” She then looked at him suspiciously: “You’re the one that poisoned Old Master Xiao Yuan, why did he refuse treatment?”

“Because he had done something shameful and I have evidence of it,” Shang Guan Qiu Yue said, self-satisfied, “Xiao Bai even told you about these, it seems like he trusts you a lot, how confident are you in getting the xinfa?”

“How can it be that easy for me to get something that is handed down from generation to generation,” Lei Lei acted like she had been put on the spot, “unless I use a honey trap like those yuepu under you……” her eyes twinkled as her imagination ran wild, what would happen if she used a honey trap on “Xiao Bai”?

Shang Guan Qiu Yue was at a loss: “How beautiful do you think you are?”

Lei Lei looked at him askance: “Do you look like father or mother?”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue’s gaze chilled slightly and his smile became strange: “Why?”

Lei Lei didn’t notice any of this: “We are obviously siblings but I don’t see any similarities between us, you’ve inherited all the good things and now I can’t even use a honey trap!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue raised an eyebrow: “I’m very good looking?”

Stop seducing me, Lei Lei looked at his face resentfully, wishing she could strip it off and stick it onto her own face: “It’s even more good looking than females, don’t you know?”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue smiled wordlessly.

Lei Lei’s gaze shifted and she suddenly motioned: “Look there!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue turned his head.

Lei Lei pulled his sleeve, laughing warmly: “I want to see your Duo Qing Silk!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue realised her intentions and let out a low grunt of disapproval as he gave her a push.

Wow, I only wanted to see your weapon, do you have to be so fierce? Murdering your blood related sister! Lei Lei screamed in fright as she fell down the precipice.

Something tightened around her waist and her fall was halted.

Lei Lei was dangling upside down in mid air, swaying in the wind like a bell. A piece of white silk was wrapped around her waist. There was a strange quality to the material and a chill seeped through her clothes and bore into her flesh.

“Ge! You, you……”

“Do you still want to see it?”

“No! I’ve seen it!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue landed gently and stood on the branch closest to her, a trace of mischief in his gaze: “Do you still dare to fool me?”

Lei Lei was angry: “Stop joking, put me down!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue ignored her and reached out to pat her face with a smile: “Do you still dare to fool gege?”

His warm smile actually contained some malice, Lei Lei was frightened and regret overwhelmed her. Until now, she had only bothered herself with getting to know her brother and counting on her identity, she had reached for a yard after getting an inch. She had acted impudently in front of him and forgotten this person’s actual identity, a name that shook Jianghu, a devil that dug out people’s eyeballs without blinking an eyelid. As such, there should also be a limit for his tolerance towards his sister.

Seeing that his attention was fixed on her, Lei Lei had already attained the highest level in the ability of sailing with the wind so she quickly shook her head: “Don’t dare, I don’t dare to anymore!”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue smiled: “That’s a good girl.”

Her body hovered in the air once more before settling on the ground. She was already standing steadily on the ground but Lei Lei had almost lost a few souls in her fright and her palms were covered in sweat.

Shang Guan Qiu Yue looked at the sky: “Go back first, I’ll look for you when I’m free.”

Lei Lei anxiously replied: “Don’t come here anymore, we’ll be leaving in two days.”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue’s gaze shifted slightly: “Leaving?”

Lei Lei gave it a moment’s consideration before deciding on a half truth: “It seems like……on this year’s New Year day, Xiao Bai and Qin Gongzi are under orders to go to Ye Tan City to reassure the people.” But they’ll change course midway to head for Bi Shui City instead. Hmph, daring to treat me this way, laoniang won’t tell you.

Shang Guan Qiu Yue looked pensive.

Lei Lei was still upset about what had happened just now so she ignored him and turned to leave: “I’ll go back first.”

Lei Lei started her hasty preparations after returning to the manor and the day of departure soon arrived. For Bai Sheng Manor, besides the gongzi and Lei Lei, Steward Zhao, Wang Cong and Zhang Qian would also be coming along. In the early morning, Qin Residence’s group had already stationed themselves outside the mountain manor. Three subordinates were on horseback and all of them carried long swords on their belts. There were also two horse carriages. Besides Qin Liu Feng himself, there were also two other people with him and the two ladies shared a carriage.

Leng Zui was dressed in her usual male getup. She gave off a natural and unrestrained bearing, without the slightest bit of aloofness, looking considerably at ease like a male’s disposition. After greeting the gongzi, she returned to the carriage to rest.

The other female was about her age, wearing black clothes with white borders, typical Xi Sha faction attire. Neat and tidy, a gentle expression, looking gentle, quiet and virtuous, her forehead revealed a hint of her worry. After getting down from the horse carriage, she followed Qin Liu Feng in and politely greeted the gongzi. Her manner was even more reserved than Leng Zui but her words were very proper, showing hints of shyness yet not losing her influential bearing.

The actual destination of their current operation is Bi Shui City. Bi Shui City was Nan Hai faction’s territory and it wouldn’t be weird for Lady Scholar Leng to travel with them as she headed home. What surprised Lei Lei was that, that other lady……wasn’t she Xi Sha faction’s Wen Guniang!

Very soon, Wen Guniang also caught sight of her. Her initial surprise quickly gave way to relief.

Lei Lei waved her hand.

Wen Guniang hesitated for a moment before leaving behind the gongzi and Qin Liu Feng. She walked over: “You……”

Lei Lei introduced herself: “I’m Lei Lei, why are you here?”

Wen Guniang was a little ill at ease: “The day before yesterday, an old friend of my father came to visit and mentioned that someone would be auctioning the Longevity Fruit at Bi Shui City. He was very detailed about the time and location and I happened to overhear it. Thinking that it was a matter of great importance, I wanted to report it to Chief He but he wasn’t back yet. I heard that he had gone to Ba Xian Residence to see Sir Bu Er, so……”

The realisation dawned on Lei Lei: “So you could only come to look for the two of them?”

Wen Guniang nodded: “These had all stemmed from the Longevity Fruit, causing Uncle Leng’s tragic death and resulting in the enmity between my father and Nan Hai faction. The Longevity Fruit is now in that person’s hands and he might even be the one who murdered Old Sir Bu so I wanted to ask Chief He to do a thorough investigation and declare my father’s innocence.”

Xiao Tai Ping already has a plan! Lei Lei obviously wouldn’t tell her this, so she asked: “Does your father know about you coming here to notify us of this?”

Wen Guniang didn’t reply.

Seeing her reaction, Lei Lei immediately understood that this beauty had came out by herself. It seems like Wen Ting had no intention of reporting this. She looked around before asking in a soft voice: “The issue with the former Leader Leng……wouldn’t have been done by Leader Wen right?”

Wen Guniang bit her lip: “Guniang also believes what those people are saying? My father had always been on good terms with Uncle Leng. Everyone was suspicious of Uncle Leng when the issue around the Longevity Fruit first started and even though they had disputes, to say that my father would take someone’s life over it, that is impossible.”

Lei Lei nodded and didn’t say anything else but she was still very suspicious. There would always be exceptions when faced with benefits, let alone such a miraculous treasure like the Longevity Fruit. Besides, it’s clear that Leader Wen knew about the auction at Bi Shui City but refused to report it. This showed that he had designs on the Longevity Fruit and it was really difficult to say if he was the one who murdered Leng Ying.

Wen Guniang suddenly blushed and said in a soft voice: “That day……thank you.”

Lei Lei blanked out for a moment before realising that she was referring to the time at the inn where she had saved Leng Sheng Yin. She couldn’t stop a laugh from escaping her. Animosity caused by the killing of one’s father would leave deep hatred and her devotion to proving her father’s innocence must also be because of Leng Sheng Yin.

“You’re returning now?”

Wen Guniang shook her head: “Qin Gongzi asked me to come along, saying that he has arrangements in place.”

It’s arrangements for you to meet with the handsome iceberg at Bi Shui City, Lei Lei comforted her: “Heaven’s net is wide and nothing can escape it, the culprit will be caught sooner or later. If it really wasn’t your father, Chief He will give him justice, don’t worry.”

Wen Guniang gave her a small smile: “Many thanks, you’re right, I’ll get on the carriage first.”

Seeing her enter the carriage and sit beside the window in a daze, Lei Lei stroked her chin and shook her head. Xi Sha faction’s special palm strike was concrete evidence and the fact that he had designs on the Longevity Fruit was sufficient motive for murder. All the suspicion pointed towards Wen Ting. If the investigation concluded that Leng Ying had been killed by her father, there wouldn’t be any hope for her and Leng Sheng Yin.

As she was deep in her thoughts, someone gave a hard knock on her head: “Little girl, what are you daydreaming about!”

Lei Lei stared angrily at the person when she saw who it was: “You……”

Qin Liu Feng had a faint smile on his face: “How do you know Wen Guniang?”

Lei Lei recalled something and couldn’t be bothered to bicker with him: “What’s her name?”

“After speaking for such a long time, you don’t know her name?” Qin Liu Feng looked at the horse carriage longingly, “Family name, Wen. Name, Xiang. Wen Xiang. I suppose even the so-called ‘feminine charms’ cannot compare. The young Leader Leng is fortunate!”

Such a degenerate! Lei Lei said: “You’re envious?”

Qin Liu Feng raised an eyebrow and looked askance at her: “I heard from Brother Xiao that Lei Lei Guniang loves poetry and is anxious to meet with me?”

Lei Lei was baffled: “When did I want to meet with you?”

Qin Liu Feng held back a laugh: “Don’t you often ask about when I’ll be coming? Could it be that Brother Xiao was wrong?”

“Xiao Bai” said that? Lei Lei realised what had caused this. She had been brooding over Qin Liu Feng stealing her “moonlight at my bedside”, constantly reminding herself that from now on, she had to gain the advantage by making the first move. She wanted to have another round with Qin Liu Feng to see who was better and as such, she kept repeating “When will Qin Liu Feng be coming again”, and it’s obvious that the gongzi had misunderstood her words.

She immediately turned to look at the gongzi.

The gongzi had been looking in her direction and when their gazes suddenly met, he shifted his gaze and turned to board the carriage without batting an eyelid.

It was clear that Qin Liu Feng had gotten the wrong idea: “Don’t blame Brother Xiao……”

You’re overthinking things! Lei Lei gnashed her teeth in anger and interrupted him: “You must’ve heard wrong, I’ve never asked about anything relating to you.”

“Of course, it’s better if you’re not here.”

Qin Liu Feng coughed and touched his nose, laughing softly: “If that’s the case, I think I might’ve heard wrongly. Lei Lei Guniang, there’s no need to be angry, we’ll continue this conversation in the carriage?”

Lei Lei turned and left: “Thank you, I want to share a carriage with Xiao Bai!”

Qin Liu Feng burst into laughter as he looked at her.

At the bottom of the ravine, the sound of flowing water had lessened, the currents flowed more smoothly and there were many pieces of ice floating on the surface. Layer upon layer of white gauze curtains had been put up on Yue Hua Platform, blocking out a majority of the wintry chill. Shang Guan Qiu Yue stood alone beside the railing, his snow coloured robes almost fusing together with the white gauze curtains. His gaze was fixed on the ice valley opposite him and he looked like he was in deep thought.

The gauze curtains behind him lifted and Gu Wan walked out, dressed in black: “Shuxia greets master.”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue remained motionless: “Xiao Bai and Qin Liu Feng are heading for Ye Tan City to reassure the people. Why don’t you help to put out this news.”

Gu Wan froze: “Master means……”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue laughed: “After knowing their whereabouts, others will feel reassured to attend the Longevity Fruit auction at Bi Shui City. The auctioneer probably wouldn’t be that foolish.”

Gu Wan agreed and said after some thought: “The day of the Longevity Fruit auction is drawing closer, we……”

Without the slightest bit of hesitation, Shang Guan Qiu Yue said: “Go, of course we’re going. How can we miss the fun? I have my own plans.”

Gu Wan didn’t raise any more questions and asked to be excused.

Shang Guan Qiu Yue thought of something and turned his head as he called for him to stop, frowning: “That meimei of mine will also be going. Those people that shouldn’t be seen, you better send men to warn them to do as they’re told.”

Gu Wan accepted this: “Shuxia understands.”

Shang Guan Qiu Yue nodded.

Seeing that he had no other orders, Gu Wan excused himself.

Shang Guan Qiu Yue suddenly heaved a sigh and looked up with a small smile, muttering to himself: “Reassure the people at Ye Tan City, this round of support is special indeed, taking such a huge detour. He Tai Ping, you aren’t a fool after all, but you aren’t that clever either.”
