[Chinese/Pinyin/English] Chu Jian (初见) Goodbye My Princess OST (东宫) Lyrics

Other titles: First Encounter / First Sight / First Meet / First Meeting
(Note: Parts in brackets are my own addition, in order for the sentence to make sense.)

Verse 1:
yè wèi yāng yuè sè liáng yìng xī chuāng
The night is young and the cool moonlight reflects on the west window[1]
qián chén shì shèn sī liang
Carefully reflect on the past
mèng yōu cháng què zǒng shì jù sàn liǎng máng máng
The dream is long drawn-out but meetings and partings are always uncertain
shī yǎn kuàng zhǐ pàn nǐ huí wàng
With damp eyes, only hoping that you’ll look back

Verse 2:
shāng zài xīn lǐ jié chéng shuāng
The hurt forms frost in the heart
wàng bù diào shì nǐ de mú yàng
It’s your image that I can’t forget
huí shǒu chū jiàn
Looking back on our first meeting
nà cóng qián xiāng wàng de shùn jiān
That past, the instant we looked at each other
zhuā bù zhù shēn chū de zhǐ jiān
I can’t grasp the fingertip you’ve extended

Chorus:
lí xīn suì kōng liú lèi rén bù guī
Heartbroken from the breakup, tears are shed in vain (but) the person doesn’t return
wàng chuān zhī shuǐ jìng kàn hóng chén shì fēi
River of forgetfulness, silently watching the rights and wrongs in the world
shí guāng dào huí yǐn xià wàng qíng yī bēi
Turn back time, drink a glass[2] to forget (our) love
ruò rú chū jiàn wèi shéi ér guī
If it was like our first meeting, who should I return for

Bridge:
qiū yòu qù chūn yòu guī
Autumn passes again and Spring returns again
mèng yǔ xǐng lún huí
Alternate between dreams and reality

(Repeat Verse 1)
(Repeat Chorus x2)
(Repeat Bridge)

[1] In ancient times, the west window / room would be a bedroom, painting a picture of a person sitting in their room as they reminisced the past
[2] A more direct translation would be to drink a glass of ‘forget feelings’ but that doesn’t make sense so…I rephrased it.

  1. Need more!! Wonderfully done! Would just suggest perhaps to the english in one color and pinyin in another. Makes it easier to distinguish when trying to read them at the same time.

    1. Hmm that sounds like a good idea, what colour would you suggest? I can try it out on this page first.

My site background actually shows up as black or white at different pages/devices (?- I’m not sure what’s causing it) so the colour will have to be visible with both backgrounds.
